Sydney is full of picturesque beaches to choose from...

here are my top picks

Turimetta beach

Northern Beaches

Turimetta Beach is such a stunning location, rain or shine. The best part is, unlike most beaches in Sydney, Turimetta is always quiet, so you're almost guaranteed to get a portion of the beach (if not the whole beach) to yourself, any time of the day - it makes your photos look like you're in a remote part of the world, not just 40 minutes from Sydney CBD.

There's a variety of terrain and backdrops to work with - from rugged cliffs, the distinct orange sand, to rock shelves, this beach has everything you could want for a moody, romantic couple shoot.

You can just park on the off-street parking, and it's just a small walk down the stairs to get to the beach entrance.

Greenhills Beach

Cronulla, sutherland shire

Only 40 minutes from the CBD, and just a 10 minute walk from Cronulla Beach, is Greenhills Beach - not the first beach that comes to mind by any means, but it's a great location for Photoshoots especially during sunrise, and it's much quieter than most Eastern-facing coastal beaches in Sydney.

There's also ample free parking here, I've never had any issues finding a good spot as opposed to Cronulla which is further down the road.

Greenhills also has an off-leash Dog-friendly strip of beach during certain times, so it's a perfect location if you plan to include your fur baby in your Engagement Shoot.

Balmoral beach

mosman, sydney

So Balmoral is one of my top picks because it's pretty central, it's got tonnes of variety, and it's just iconic really. There's nothing quite like it.

There's rotundas, trees, bridges, rocks, the little island thing in the middle (what is that called?) SO MANY OPTIONS! I could spend a whole day shooting here. Not to mention, the waters are calm here because it's a bay, so on a sunny day the water just sparkles.

The only downside is it gets pretty busy here, but it's manageable; often times there will be several shoots happening at once, because it's so popular.

Oh and also, parking is EXPENSIVE here, so just drive up one of the side streets a bit further away from the beach to get free street parking, and just walk down; trust me, it's not worth the stress of circling the main areas to find a carpark.

Collaroy beach

northern beaches

This is a great option for sunrise, and the curve of the beach with the cliffs in the background makes for some stunning shots. The area I use here is a much smaller stretch than other beaches, but there's still plenty to work with here.

We typically only ever have to share the location with the odd fisherman (and maybe a pelican or two!).

There's parking by the Golf Club, but there's also plenty of on-street parking nearby.

Watsons bay & Camp cove

Eastern suburbs

It goes without saying, a place like Camp Cove is only doable off-peak, due to the crowds it faces from around 10am through to sunset.

That's why I recommend Watsons Bay/Camp Cove for either first thing in the morning, or sunset throughout the Winter months only. But let me tell you, it's worth an early wakeup.

It is without a doubt, a great location for your beach shoot. There's the lighthouse and lookout which are just a short walk away, there's the infamous little yellow boat house on the water with the city backdrop - again, so many options.
